As Cornerstone Group continues to expand I am delighted to announce the appointment of the Hon Simon Crean as Co-Chairman of the Advisory Board alongside the Hon Dr Peter Hendy.

This appointment reinforces the strength of Cornerstone’s reach across political parties and the public service.

Simon brings extensive experience and knowledge to Cornerstone’s Board as a respected Labor Leader, Cabinet Minister and ACTU president. Simon also holds degrees in Law and Economics.

From 1981, Simon was elected Vice President of the ACTU and in 1985, elected ACTU President. Before entering Parliament in 1990, Simon, along with Bill Kelty, played a key leadership role in major economic reform through the Accord between the ACTU and the Government of Bob Hawke and Paul Keating.

Simon was elected to Parliament in 1990 as the Federal Member for Hotham in Melbourne’s South East. He successfully contested it 8 times. He went straight into the Ministry and served in the Cabinets of four labor Prime Ministers (Hawke, Keating, Rudd and Gillard), holding the portfolios of Science and Technology, Primary Industries and Energy, Employment Education and Training, Trade, Regional Development, Local Government and the Arts. In Opposition he served continuously on the front bench as Deputy Leader and as Leader.

Simon’s knowledge and experience of the inner workings of government will provide our clients with a strategic advantage in government relations and corporate affairs. Simon’s widespread and comprehensive experience will play a key role in the ongoing development and growth of the company.

Simon chairs the Australian Live Exporters Council (ALEC) and Deakin University Advanced Manufacturing Advisory Group. He is Deputy Chair of the European Australian Business Council (EABC) and sits on the Boards of Linfox International Group, Monash University Council, LiveCorp, Red Meat Advisory Council (RMAC), National Indigenous Education Foundation, South East Melbourne (SEM) Advisory Board and Melbourne Luna Park.
